This Week in Rotary
Anne's Departure
Members Joel Kruschwitz spoke for himself and member Tom Klein on how much their familes enjoyed having Anne this year. Her energy, warm personality, and contagious smile were unmatched. She became a daughter to both familes and will be missed. Thanks to all members that helped raise $239 dollars towards helping Anne take "American" items from her experience with us back to Germany.
Member update
Member Art Wolfe announced to everyone that he will be leaving the Aurora club to move to Minnesota for a new job his wife has received. He will be around until September, so plenty of time to give him a hard time!
President Regina made a special announcement concerning the member anniversaries. Thanks to Jerry, Brad, Ken, Craig, and Bill for your outstanding commitment to Rotary.

Aaron Vega was our speaker this week from The People's Building. Aaron is currently the Curator and Facilities Coordinator for The People's Building. Aaron has an interesting background that fits perfectly for the goals established for this facility. He recently moved to Denver from NYC with his hound dog Eleanor, where he was an event manager for one of the largest catering firms in NYC. He is also an actor, director, producer, musician, and puppeteer. So what is the People's Building you might ask? Located at 9995 E Colfax Ave Aurora, CO 80010, the building has some interesting history. The history of The People's Building's is as dynamic as Aurora itself. Once a ski shop and then a rent-to-own furniture store, it was acquired by the City of Aurora's Office of Urban Renewal and Redevelopment. They invested over two million into the building's revitalization and it is now utilized as a gallery and a flexible event space for cultural events, workshops, meetings, independent artists, musicians, dancers, and event planners. Aaron and his team believe there is a direct link between the arts and a thriving community. This is a place where artists of all disciplines can explore, educate and perform while inspiring metro-area residents. Through high-quality and affordable event, performance and rehearsal space, this is a place for those who have something to share. It's also a beautiful facility for meetings, social gatherings—and even the occasional wedding.
They are looking to add a restaurant as well to the building and will be receiving their liquour license soon to provide additional ambiance to the building and the area. The building has a 3300 square foot 440 person occupancy stage area for all types of events. Their vision is to seek to become a part of the national arts conversation, be a haven for artists in an ever growing metropolis, and offer a collage of programming that is as diverse as our community. They operate on 3 pillars: Performance, Education, and Events. Breaking those down would include the following goals:
1) A curated balance of art, education, and wellness for our patrons.
2) Access to a high-quality venue to provide dignity for our artists.
3) A dedication to a revenue neutral business model.
4) Resident organizations to keep us grounded in our community.
If you are interested in utilizing the space for upcoming meetings or you know a budding artist let have them reach out to Aaron to learn more. Thanks Aaron for taking time to share with us information about The People's Building.
