Member Kimberly Armitage  brought to a vote the decision in support of President Regina Edmondson's nomination for District Governor in 2022-2023.  The vote passed without any dissenting comments.  Congrats Regina on this new opportunity within Rotary.

Kimberly also discussed potential for the club to attend a Rockies game this spring/summer.  There are many options for us to choose from concerning dates and location within Coors Field.  We will need a minimum of 20 people to attend to achieve the non-profit ticket price.  Prices range from $14-$36.  These times are afternoon games that could fall on a Rotational Wednesday.  Kimberly will have more details, but the majority of the club expressed interest in attending.

Member Sheila Anthony asked for volunteers for the upcoming Flower Power pickup/dropoff on March 1st and 2nd.  She has signups that were provided at the meeting.  If you would like to volunteer please send Sheila an email @ smanthony@centurypa.com

Next MEETING meeting on 2/5/20 @ Rendezvous Healther Gardens .

Ellen Kowitt - What would Nancy Drew do?
Our speaker this week was Ellen Kowitt, an accomplished genealogist with her own company Sole Searching.  Her talk referenced the book series Nancy Drew, which was first drafted in 1930.  Nancy was a female amateur detective that arrived on the seen after the Hardy Boys series.  She provided a strong female personality that solved mysteries all over the world.  Ellen made the connection that Nancy Drew was one of the first genealogists referenced and made the connection that in most families it is women who provide this insight into family trees and family history.  She is a collector of all things Nancy Drew and has many original copies in other languages.  Nancy Drew books have been written in 45 languages.

Ellen's paternal great grandfather manufactured shoes for the Russian army, and she's been following in the footprints of his life story for many years. Intentionally spelling "Sole" to reflect the sole of a leather shoe like the one Yosef Shindelman produced in the early 1900s, it also represents every individual pursuit of a family's unique journey.

Ellen is a veteran Jewish records researcher and leader in genealogy activities worldwide. She has the capacity to complete projects solo or to recruit the right team of experts to collaborate and deliver outstanding results. Her lectures and articles are informative, energetic, and constantly evolving to provide current and relevant content for all types of audiences.

As a volunteer in the genealogy world for 25 years, Ellen has held numerous leadership roles, organized records acquisition, indexed, and managed translation projects in the United States and abroad.

Ellen continues to add to her knowledge toolbox by attending professional conferences, webinars, and genealogy institutes, and she follows the genealogical proof standard and code of ethics in her research and reporting.

Ellen loves helping others to discover connections, break through brick walls, or learn something new to add to their family story. She is dedicated and provides high quality work informed by her volunteer experience, a valuable peer network, and her professional marketing and communications background with corporations and nonprofit organizations in New York, Washington DC, and Colorado.

Ellen provided an extensive handout that provided tremendous insight into the resources available for people who want to pursue information about their family history(see link below).  Most of these resources are free or have a small subscription/donation request.  The larger genealogy sites like Ancestry or My Heritage come with various levels of subscription or annual fees.  If you would like more information about this area or like Ellen's assistance in helping you with your efforts please reach out to Ellen at solesearching@ellenkowitt.com or at http://EllenKowitt.com

Thank you Ellen for this insight and great information.
