Kimberly Armitage - Aurora Family YMCA
Member Kimberly Armitage, Director of the Aurora Family YMCA shared an update on their efforts surrounding a new building in Aurora.   She first shared appreciation to member Craig Wagner for his 40 years of support to the YMCA and his 7 Everyday Hero award as well as member support for the Peaceful Schools Reading program.

The YMCA operates out of multiple locations in the Aurora area. They provide programing at various HOAs, schools, and at the Southlands Shopping Center. Programs include sports, kids night out, before & after school care, fitness classes and youth programs.

Kim provided an update to the Wheatlands Building Project.  Plans to improve health and transform the lives of individuals and families in Aurora are moving ahead.

Final review of the plans of the Aurora Family YMCA at Wheatlands has been completed, and a 13-week design and development phase is in progress. Engineering and permitting will take place in the spring, with phase one construction set to start in the third quarter of 2019.

This multi-year project began in 2011 with an effort to transform, renovate, and expand the Y’s ability to effectively meet the diverse and growing needs of the Aurora area.

When completed, the Aurora Family YMCA at Wheatlands will directly support individuals and families with new and expanded Y programs for healthy living, aquatics safety, child care, education and teen leadership. Moreover, the Y will be a resource for low-income and minority families to bolster health outcomes, reduce drop-out rates, improve academic success, and promote child safety.

The YMCA will be an asset to the Aurora community and a gathering place for fitness, friendships, families and connections.

Check out the building plans and the what the building looks like on the link below.

Thanks Kimberly for the update.
