Anne Update
Member Joel Kruschwitz wanted to thank all the members that have provided exchange student Anne great insight to our beautiful state of Colorado.  She has been having fun.  She is also playing lacrosse at Smoky Hill High School.  If you would like to encourage her the schedule is below:

Community Support - Keller Williams Red Day
Member Phil Gibson announced that his wife, Beth and their organization Keller Williams Denver Southeast, will be collecting lightly used sleeping bags and/or non-logo
backpacks to support the homeless.   The backpacks will be packed with non-perishable items and water.  If you would like to support this effort please bring items to an upcoming meeting and give to Phil.  The Red Day event will occur on 5/9.   
 
State of The City
Two lists went around for volunteer assistance and where you would like to sit at the event.  If you were unable to be at the meeting and would like to volunteer please reach out to Linda:  lwit2@msn.com
 
Date Change for Golden Globes - May 11th is the new date for Golden Globes.  Nomination emai/link went out from Kimberly this week.   Get that completed TODAY!!

Red Tailed Hawk Park Updates
 
Thank you to member Ev Sequeira and local Optimist Clubs for their support of the park.  They gave $3500 towards the park.  Permits for the park are moving forward.  Recognition plaque information needs to be submitted by 4/15 deadline.  Reach out to Rick if you have a potential donor that might miss this deadline.   rrichardsr@msn.com
Bill Holen - Arapahoe County Commissioner  

Our speaker this week was Bill Holen, Arapahoe County Commissioner District 5.  Bill is a Vietnam Veteran and served during the Tet Offensive.  Bill was a federal government employee for 22 years and also spent 4 years working with United Airlines to open up routes to China.  As commissioner, Bill’s goal is to ensure the County’s fiscal situation is managed efficiently and effectively and that taxpayer dollars are being fairly dispersed. He aims maintain a high level of service for Arapahoe County citizens and to improve collaborative efforts with cities, counties, and state and federal governments, so that public resources are properly used.

As Commissioner, Bill oversees the Community Resources and Public Works and Development departments. He serves on the Arapahoe County Housing Authority, Arapahoe County Foundation Board of Directors, Arapahoe County Public Airport Authority, Justice Coordinating Committee and 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Forfeiture Board. Bill also represents Arapahoe County’s interests on a variety of boards and committees, including the Colorado Counties Inc. Transportation and Telecommunication, Public Lands, and Land Use and Natural Resources steering committees; the National Association of Counties Veterans and Military Service and Transportation committees; E-470 Public Highway Authority and Metro Area County Commissioners. He also serves on the boards of the Arapahoe/Douglas Mental Health Network, the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, Board of Social Services and Denver Regional Council of Governments.  Arapahoe County which has a rich, vibrant history, and the distinction of being Colorado's first county. Arapahoe County spans 850 square miles and is a land of contrast. The western part of the county is mostly urban with residential, retail, office and industrial areas, while the eastern portion is relatively rural.  Employing 2200 people and a $404M dollar budget there are a lot of services provided for the citizens in Arapahoe County.   

Prior to serving as Commissioner, Bill worked as a Constituent Services Representative for Congressman Ed Perlmutter with a focus on national security, defense and veterans’ affairs. He also worked as Manager of Marketing Services for the United Airlines Service Co., and was a staff member for former U.S. Senator Gary Hart. Bill served as a citizen on the County’s Fairgrounds and Regional Park Steering Committee. Bill is a Vietnam Army veteran and a former member of the Colorado Air National Guard.
