Salvation Army Bell Ringers
Gage DeYoung co-chair of the Salvation Army
bell ringing made  a certificate for each bell ringer,
They are displaying them in this  picture.
As can be seen, there was tremendous
participation in the project.  The two kettles
at the King Soopers locations brought in $30,000.

Blue Badge
Gage DeYoung completed his Red Badge
requirements by giving his vocational talk.
President Patti Bateman conducted the
Blue Badge ceremony.  She noted that Gage had
completed the Red Badge in record time
and had taken on the Bell Ringing
assignment which is a  major club project.

                 The Eagle Award

Brad Pierce and Dave Williams gave
an update on the progress being made
to re-establish The Eagle Award.  They
had made contact with Mayor Hogan
and members of the City Council to
get concurrence for establishing the
award.

The Eagle Award is for sworn officers in
the police  and fire departments who perform
their job in an exemplary manner over and
above their regular job requirements.
The award consists of a bronze eagle the awardee
gets to keep, their name engraved on a
permanent plaque kept by the
departments and a $100 gift certificate
to The Outback.

A Rotary Moment

Kevin Hougen read the "Rotary Moment".
It was the history of the 4-Way Test.
A member composed it in 1932.  It was
made the official Rotary motto in
1952.   It  is the most reproduced motto
used invarious publications.

The State of the Base

George Peck announced that the State of
the Base 2017 will be January 18.  It will be
held in the combined ball rooms of the
Double Tree.  The new commander,
Colonel David Miller Jr. will be giving the
address.  This is a joint project between the
club and  The Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber will be selling tickets to the
event and it will be sold out.  Because of
the popularity of the event, members are
being asked to signup when the
SignUpGenius.com  is sent out.  George
made a flyer that he is holding up.  There
were enough flyers for members wanting
them.

  Ben Allen
      IT Professional

Ben Allen is an IT professional and is also a
Rotarian.  He was interested in how Rotary
clubs were using technology that is available
to them.  Ben's talk was very well organized
and was interspersed with "bad jokes".  Not
inappropriate jokes, just bad.
He listed nine individual types of software
and what they do.  The nine types are:
SignUpGenius.com
freeconferencecall.com
Doodle.com
Joinme
Skype.com
Snagit
DropBox.com
Carbonite.com
Sophos Home Antivirus
YouTube contains instructions on how to use
this software.
The first part of Ben's presentation was how
Rotary clubs could enhance their newsletters and
websites.
The second part of his presentation was the pitfalls
that hackers used to get into users files and
create "mischief", read theft and destruction of
files.
These hackers can take files and hold them for
ransom.  This malware is introduced through
emails with attachments.  Don't open attachments
unless you know who sent it and it is prudent
to call the sender and double check that they sent
it and it is benign.
The way to protect against this is to
backup your files every hour.  Carbonite. com is a
software backup program,
