Len Brass, Rotary 101

Len Brass

Len Brass, a member of Gateway Rotary, and the last recipient of the Active Senior Active award given by our club, joined Rotary in 1975.

Len livened his talk with a dialogue that a Rotarian would have with a good friend:

  • Would you be interested in an organization that has the highest ethical standards?
  • Would you be interested in an organization that puts Service Above Self?
  • Would you be interested in an organization that is structured as an inverted pyramid where the upper echelons exist only to support the clubs?
  • Would you be interested in an organization with 1,230,000 members worldwide able to marshall their effort to make a real difference in the world?
  • Would you be interested in an organization where 100% of money donated goes to projects?
  • Would you be interested in an organization that is working to save some of the 27,000 people who die every day from bad water?
  • Would you be interested in an organization that understands that 75% of the worlds women can't read and are developing programs to improve that number?
  • Would you be interested in an organization that is large enough with 33,000 clubs and with the ambition to tackle world problems such as ending polio world wide.
  • Would you be interested in an organization that has worldwide fellowships e.g. writing, sailing, flying, chess etc.

If so let me introduce you to Rotary.

Dave Lemon

Dave Lemon was awarded Rotarian of the Quarter for November 2009.  Dave has headed up the Dictionary Project for the last 3 years.

Mike Klingbiel

Assistant District Governor Mike Klingbiel and District Governor Nominee visited the club and reported that there were only 300 people signed up for 5450 District Conference being held at the Fort Collins Hilton, April 30, May 1 and 2.  The district has estimated 400 attendees based on past history.  Guarantees have been made for 400.

(Assistant Governor Mike donated $20 to the club in celebration of his 20th wedding anniversary.)

-

Bill Wiggins made a plea for more people to sign up on line.  The board is encouraging members to go and will reimburse attendees up to $250 for their registration.

-

To register click http://www.5450rotary.org and click on District Conference link.

  • Complete conference registration $240 per person.
  • Less than total registration available on per meal basis.
  • Map and other documents on line are available to be printed.
  • Hotel room registration may say No Rooms Available.  Mike Klingbiel says this is not true, call the Hilton and ask for a room.
  • It is important to register so badges and packets will be waiting for you.

Chief Oates

Chief Oates thanked the club for wine donations and renewed the invitation to attend the Aurora Symphony Sips Wine Auction from 5 to 8 at Heather Ridge Country Club on Saturday April 24.

-

Joe and Deb

Debbie Lynch distributed a sign-up sheet for State of the City on Thursday May 20.  It is an opportunity to sit at one of the sponsor tables and learn more about their organization.

Joe Linhoff gave the invocation and will be club photographer next week.
