San Leon, Peru
Water Project
Rotary International has recognized and focused on the importance of plentiful, available, sanitary water supply for any remote community. In response to this focus, the Aurora Rotary Club in cooperation with other clubs is participating in providing water for San Leon, Peru. San Leon is a community of 150 people in northern Peru, District of Chao, Province of Viru.
So far the Aurora Rotary Club's participation is donating $2500 to the project.
Jim Rogers is the chair for this project.

Ken, Tom and Tracy: Fantastic News from Peru: The San Leon Well in Peru is now formally completed, and has water quality and deliverability substantially above what we anticipated. We could not be more fortunate in drilling this well on behalf of the little village 400 that have been carrying water from distant springs, all their lives. Now the young engineers can begin the routine (no risk!) task of laying PVC pipe to the village (downhill!) so the villagers will have several water taps with CLEAN WATER at their doorsteps! I have taken the liberty to send an immediate email today (on your behalf), to Senor Haro (Lima engineer) and the members of the Trujillo Norte Rotary Club, extending our thanks for their supervision and oversight of the drilling program. At an appropriate point, I hope our CLUB will send a more formal note of congratulations and appreciation. With Debbie's encouragement, I am begging Eric Harmon (the US coordinator at San Leon; lives here) to make a presentation of all of this info, the photos, and other particulars to our CLUB at the January 31st luncheon, the date that she has available for this purpose. After all the smoke has cleared at San Leon, all the bills have been paid and receipts recorded, I would like a commission from the Club to work with Eric on our next overseas water well project. Maybe one we could budget for 2008??? How many more villages in Peru (or elsewhere) are waiting for "our" water. Jim
