 General's Park Plaques

General's Park at Fitzsimons Army Hospital was

the centennial project for four Rotary Clubs:

Aurora Rotary

Aurora Gateway

Aurora Fitzsimons

Smoky Hill

The park was completed in cooperation with the

City of Aurora.

Integral to the park is a lanai with series of

plaques in five year increments:

1905 to 2005

Each plaque tells the history of the Aurora area

and includes the history of Rotary for the

same period.

Guard House Reconstruction

Guard House

Guard House   Guard House

Staff in Planning, Design & Construction recently finished

the rehabilitation and restoration of the Guardhouses and

iron gate in General’s Park located at the northeast corner

of Peoria and Colfax. The intent of the project was to

restore the Guardhouse and gate to recapture its original

historic appearance existing between 1919 and 1941. Work

included demolition of the existing screen wall and brick

sign base, the addition of a historically similar pedestrian

and vehicular gate structures and columns, stucco repair

and paint, roof replacement to historically similar

roof tiles, and repair/replacement of structural

features, landscaping and site improvements.

The Historic Commission reviewed and approved

the plans. PROS also hired an architect who has

experience with historic renovations.

The project really enhances and “opens up” the

park. I invite you to visit this unique project and see

the renovation for yourself.
