Recommended Procedure to deliver dictionaries to 3rd graders:

  1. Call the teacher or school secretary and schedule a date and time for delivery.  Confirm the number of third graders in the classes.  Ask whether students will be assembled in a general area or will it be done in each class room.
  2. Call Joe Little's auto repair business, Body Beautiful, at 303-766-9777 to schedule a time to pick up dictionaries.  Their address is 7436 South Eagle Street, Centennial, CO 80112 (near Arapahoe Road and South Jordan Road).  PLEASE HONOR THE TIME SCHEDULED FOR PICK UP.  Please Check off the school you are delivering to so there is an actual record of schools getting dictionaries.
  3. If you are delivering two or more boxes, get help or a delivery cart from the school.
  4. Give a brief introduction to Rotary, who we are and what we do.
  5. Examples of projects that the kids can relate to include helping to provide clean drinking water, shipping of school supplies, goal to eradicate polio.  Rotary helps develop future leaders through programs like Interact, RYLA, and the International student exchange.
  6. Encourage the students to ask questions.
  7. Hand out the dictionaries.  Have the students write their name on the book plate so they take ownership of the dictionary.
  8. The 4-Way test is on the label, go over a brief explanation of the test and have the students repeat after you if you like.
  9. If you review the dictionary ahead of time, you could cover some interesting areas such as the longest word and other interesting facts.  By now the students will be paging through the dictionary and you will have lost your audience.
  10. Thank the teacher and the school for their time and encourage them to be a part of Rotary in the future.
